Chefs Make World’s Largest Lasagna at 5.29 Tons
Polish chefs broke a Guinness World Record for cooking an extremely large food on Wednesday, and it wasn’t the world’s largest Pierogi. Instead, their inspiration came from Italian cuisine.
According to Reuters, a Polish restaurant in Krakow set the Guinness World Record for making the world’s largest lasagna. The lengthy lasagna weighed 5.29 tons and took 10 hours to bake. When finally completed, it was cut into an impressive 10,000 portions and served.
What was the motivation behind the prodigious pasta dish? The Poles were honoring the Italian national soccer team, who stayed nearby for the European soccer Championship. The team, which reached the quarterfinals, stayed in Poland until they faced off against England on Sunday.
The chefs weren’t sure if the Italian soccer players could actually try the lasagna because of their strict pre-game diets, but the players did get to help in the cooking process. Ultimately, it probably paid off that the Italian team members stuck to their diets. After a tough game, Italy won in penalty kicks.
