Don’t Call It a Comeback: We Trace Shalom Harlow’s Return to the Fashion Spotlight

Back in the 90s, Shalom Harlow was everywhere–from Chanel campaigns to couture, she was one of the supers, (along with Kate Moss, Karolina Kurkova, Amber Valetta et al) and a particular favorite of the fashion set. In the early 2000s, she still worked steadily and added the “slash actress” to her resume, appearing in films like Vanilla Sky and How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

She never really left modeling, but we saw her a lot less in the mid-2000s. She switched modeling agencies in 2009, leaving IMG for DNA. She landed some smaller editorials in 2010, but 2012 has really marked the return of Shalom. And we couldn’t be happier.

She just landed the Jason Wu fall campaign, in which she channels the fierce Chinese warriors that stomped down his runway this past February. In honor of snagging this high-profile campaign, we decided to trace Shalom’s newly rising star this year. Scroll down to see more of her gorgeous work. Welcome back, Shalom!

Shalom Harlow is the latest 90s supermodel to be staging a comeback. After walking in the Alexander Wang’s fall 2012 show, she’s popping up in editorials and ad campaigns, and we couldn’t be happier to see her back on the circuit.

For her latest gig, she covers Oyster mag’s “All Woman” issue, and stars in an editorial shot by Cass Bird and styled by Stevie Dance. It was shot in NYC at the Bowery Hotel. While on set, this punky looking gentleman wandered into the shoot, Harlow rolled with it because she’s a supermodel, flashed him, and now that shot is glossy history. Here’s how it happened, according to Dance:

Shalom was the most impeccably professional and fun super woman I have ever had the pleasure to work with. She was a true performer, and Cass and her had a great connection on set shooting Oyster‘s issue celebrating THE WOMAN. We shot at the Bowery Hotel in an amazing patio suite. The day was very impromptu with not one man on set, until we picked up PUNK KOUTURE – this gentleman who made it into the edit. He was dining outside at Gemma, on holiday from England and–lucky him–got to share this great moment with one of our industry’s most beautiful forces. Lucky us too.
