Fantastic Fest, a film festival in Austin, Tex., known for its genre films and attention-getting stunts, will have Disney joining its party this year. That studio’s film “Frankenweenie,” directed by  Tim Burton, will have its world premiere as the opening-night film.

“Frankenweenie” represents Mr. Burton’s  return to stop-motion animation after the 2005 film “Corpse Bride.” It’s also his return to black-and-white filmmaking  after “Ed Wood” (1994). The film follows a boy who, after his dog dies, devises a scientific way to bring him back to life. The voice cast includes Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short and Winona Ryder, but not a Burton staple, Johnny Depp.

The festival was  the first place to show such divergent titles as “Zombieland,” “The Human Centipede 2″ and “There Will Be Blood.” This year’s festival will run  Sept. 20-27.
