Baldwin donates $1M to NY Philharmonic
Just days after tying the knot with his yoga instructor and allegedly fighting with shutterbugs, Alec Baldwin donated $1 million to the New York Philharmonic.
The gift is in honor of outgoing President and Executive Director Zarin Mehta.
The “30 Rock” actor is a Philharmonic board member and hosts its radio show, “The New York Philharmonic This Week.”
He said in a statement Monday that Mehta made his dream of becoming part of the world of classical music come true.
Mehta said Baldwin’s “remarkably generous gift is just the latest in his steadfast and inspiring support” of the Philharmonic.
The Philharmonic said the gift is a donation of proceeds Baldwin received from a Capital One advertising campaign.
The gift comes a day after Baldwin quit Twitter and nearly a week after the bloviating actor got into two alleged altercations with photographers outside his home.
Page Six reported today that the hotheaded star signed off yesterday with a simple, “It’s been fun.” The last time he quit was after he was removed from an American Airlines flight in December.
But a source said, “He just takes time off,” and will likely return.
Baldwin also shut down a fan who approached him for an autograph yesterday outside his Greenwich Village pad.
“I’m just a fan,” a saleswoman from Brooklyn pleaded. Baldwin responded, “I’m very busy. Sorry, can’t talk,” prompting her to ask, “Is he really that arrogant?”
Baldwin also told a reporter at a local organic cafe, “I’m having a private conversation, can you back off, buddy?”
New wife Hilaria chimed in, “Please get out of my face.’’
