Exclusive: Meet Jacky, American Apparel’s New ‘Advanced’ Model
Is this American Apparel’s most shocking ad campaign to date? There’s no nudity or religious insensitivity, but the controversial clothing brand has done something we’ll admit totally caught us off guard: they featured someone other than the usual young, hot, disheveled, and above all naked, hipster.
We don’t know Jacky’s exact age yet, but we’re pretty sure we’ve never seen someone with grey hair in an American Apparel ad. We’ll take AA’s surprisingly politically correct language (or Ari Seth Cohen’s?) and call her “advanced.”
All a rep from AA could tell us at this time was that she was discovered by AA on the street in NYC. She recently moved here and bought her first apartment and these ads mark her modeling debut. Some of them debuted online today and we have to admit–she looks pretty great. We love her hair; she looks better in those velcro sandals than I ever would; and that crotch shot…well, it is American Apparel after all. And in a way we’re glad they’re an equal opportunity crotch shot-taker. With this and their recent pride campaign starring transgender former ANTM model Isis King, American Apparel is really starting to win us over with their advertising.
