Katie Holmes graces the August issue of Elle magazine, in which she hints about her split from Tom Cruise in an interview conducted six weeks before she filed for divorce.
Her divorce filings may have shocked husband Tom Cruise, but it’s becoming clear that for Katie Holmes, this was a long time coming.
The demure actress, 33, gave an interview to Elle magazine mid-May, just six weeks before she went public with her decision to split with the “Rock of Ages” actor – and in it, she seems to hint at the impending divorce.
“I definitely feel much more comfortable in my own skin. I feel sexier. I think in my 20s, it’s like you’re trying too hard to figure everything out,” she said in the magazine’s August issue of enjoying her 30s.
“I’m starting to come into my own. It’s like a new phase.”
Holmes was just 26 years old when the couple began their whirlwind romance in 2005, and married one year later.
The actress, who reportedly blindsided 50-year-old Cruise when she filed for divorce last week, made it a point to direct questions about her relationship with the actor back to her.

Professional aspirations aside, however, the actress’ actions are said to be centered around the couple’s 6-year-old daughter Suri.
“(It was) issues raising Suri, different ideas of parenting,” a source told the Daily News of what led to the split. “They are both very close to her.”

Cruise’s ties to Scientology are also said to be a huge factor in the divorce, and Holmes’ decision to pull the plug on their five-year marriage is tinged with fears of retribution from the church.
But in moving forward, Holmes is hopeful. The actress will soon debut her fashion line, Holmes & Yang, a collaboration with friend and stylist Jeanne Yang, which will be sold at Barneys.
And for anyone who might suggest that having such a high-profile marriage helped her career, Holmes is quick to disagree.
“Things are not handed to anyone,” she said. “If anything, you work a little bit harder when you’re in such visible circumstances.”
