Kate Upton Labeled A ‘Vulgar’ Cannibal By Thinspiration Site
Kate Upton has proved to be quite a brave woman when it comes to taking criticism for her look. The model didn’t seem phased when a Victoria’s Secret stylist compared her to a “footballer’s wife” with a “face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy.” (We assume landing the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue can only help in the confidence department.)
But Kate’s curves continue to spark debate within the fashion world and beyond. Most recently, Skinny Gossip, a “thinspiration” website run by a former model who now works in the fashion industry, has called out the blonde bombshell for her figure, criticizing Kate for “confidently lumbering up a runway like there’s a buffet at the end of it.” Under a photo of the model in a bikini, the blogger writes:
Has fashion become this? Well – we know it hasn’t, so let’s not pretend this is fashion. She looks thick, vulgar, almost pornographic – and she is a solid 30 lbs too heavy for this outfit…Is this what American women are “striving” for now? The lazy, lardy look? Have we really gotten so fat in this country that Kate is the best we can aim for?
The writer even goes as far as to compare Kate to a “cow” and quip that she’s engaging in “cannibalism” by eating a hamburger during the filming of a Carls Jr. advertisement. While Ms. Upton has certainly been polarizing, the 19-year-old has been able to score a major Vogue editorial, land a GQ cover and even be the speculative cover girl of Carine Roitfeld’s forthcoming glossy.
So while various members of the fashion industry may refuse to accept Kate, she doesn’t seem to be wanting for any jobs at the moment. Perhaps it’s best that industry insiders continue to focus on featuring healthy, representative women on runways and the pages of magazines.
